OUR

classes

Our Junior students comprise the youngest portion of our studio and we absolutely adore them. From the newest 2 year old to our oldest 8 year old, this is the time where their passion and love for dance is explored and fostered. Our Juniors love coming to the studio and having the opportunity to express themselves whilst learning brand new skills in an environment that is supportive and encouraging and full of their best friends.

TINY STARS (2-3YRS) &
BRIGHT STARS (4-5YRS)

SESSION 1 - Combines both Ready Set Dance and Ready Set Ballet + allows our UDC teachers to create beautiful routines for the end of year Showcase.

Ready Set Dance is a one hour combo class of JAZZ, TAP, HIP HOP, SINGING and MUSIC and a whole lot of fun!

JAZZ – Develop muscle strength, control and balance and achieve coordination milestones like skipping before going to school.
HIP HOP – Bust out some ice cold moves just like Freeze to our original hip hop tracks.
MUSIC – Develop the musical ear, dynamics and tempo while having fun with instruments and the parachute.
SINGING – Sing like Twirl and build confidence singing on the microphone
TAP – Learn the fundamentals of tap in a playful and creative way splashing in puddles and shuffling like a penguin.

All these ingredients together create a super hour of fun!

Ready Set Ballet is a 30 minute magical ballet experience for 2- 5 year olds. Twirl our mascot will lead our little dancers through each step of the class as they learn the fundamentals of ballet.

MUSIC – Engage in specifically designed music that captures the beauty of classical ballet
CURRICULUM – Develop coordination, body awareness, strength and flexibility both through visual and auditory instruction.
MIME – Explore creativity and gain confidence by going on a picnic with FREEZE and TWIRL, riding the tutu train to storybook lane and so much more.
THEMED DANCES – Learn the beautifully themed dances that have music prompts to support preschooler’s playful participation.
PROPS – Have fun twirling with rainbow ribbons, swaying with feathers and popping bubbles. These resources support tactile awareness and strengthen fine motor coordination and control.

SESSION 2 - Bright Star Students ONLY. This Session includes our famous Little Tumblers program, plus an opportunity for our students to use their voices and perform a vocal piece at our end of year Showcase.

Little Tumblers teaches the foundation of acrobatics – especially tailored for little bodies! The younger students will enjoy a fun filled shorter class that will get them moving and learn basic skills to prepare them for acrobatics in the older classes.

Singing helps our students to find their voice, especially their singing voice in this wonderful class that encourages confidence, expression, acceptance and play. Group activities and learning to listen to one another add such value to this beautiful program that is a favourite amongst our Bright Star students.

PRIMARY - GRADE 3 ADA JAZZ & TAP EXAMS

Universal Dance Company offers Jazz and Tap exam classes through the Australasian Dance Association syllabus. ADA exam classes are a prerequisite for performance group students, however all students are welcome and encouraged to participate. Students are presented with a certificate and badge upon completion; a beautiful way to develop self confidence by acknowledging the growth they have achieved each year.

6's Jazz & Tap

An exciting upbeat class that teaches more than the foundations of Jazz and Tap technique. Your child will build upon the basic steps they have already learned throughout the Petites programs and practice putting their knowledge into small combinations that encourage  growth, persistence and celebration. There will be a focus on working as a group when creating formations and spacing on the stage which will enhance the performance of their Jazz and Tap routines at the end of year Showcase. This is a perfect addition to the ADA Jazz and Tap syllabus classes.

8's Jazz & Tap

Just like in 6's Jazz & Tap, the students in this class are also building their skills and stretching themselves to set new goals and acknowledge their improvement. In this age group, the students are challenged to self correct through their prior ADA syllabus learning and to have a heighten level of self awareness in class. As there can be a variety of abilities within this program, it is structured in a way that ensures comfortability at any stage, but also provides room for extension for each and every student.  Again, this is a perfect addition to the ADA Jazz and Tap syllabus classes.

JASMINE STORTA, udc parent

Our Intermediate students are hungry and super excited about the Performing Arts. They are exploring many facets and genres of dance and really developing their skills. It's this age group that trains hard but for the pure love and enjoyment of it. The studio is their second home where they feel comfortable and safe to try new things, fall down, pick themselves up and try again.

Moving to your dance school has been such a positive experience for Tenille & as parents we couldn’t ask for more, thank you.

REGINA GOODE, udc parent

Our Performance Students are the most committed dancers at UDC. They take their dance training seriously and place very high importance on attendance in each and every class along with a desire and passion to perfect their craft outside of the studio. These students absolutely LOVE to dance and understand what it takes to persevere to achieve a high standard. Students who are part of the Performance Teams are selected via invite only or an expression of interest followed by a trial period. UDC is selective with who enters the Performance Teams as certain technical aspects are desirable along with a growth mindset and a team player attitude. It is at this level where students compete at eisteddfods and represent UDC in the public arena. We pride ourselves on not only raising beautiful performers with heart and soul, but mature, courteous and well rounded people who are equipped to take on the world.

Performance Teams

6's & 8's PERFORMANCE TEAMS

Our Junior students get their first taste of Performance Team from as young as 5 years old - and don't they grow at a rapid rate! At UDC, we are very mindful of their little bodies and minds, so we ease all our students into the program with minimal classes to begin with. ADA Jazz and Tap plus RAD Ballet exam classes are compulsory.

The process of selection for the 6's Team is via invite from our Bright Star age group. We also consider expressions of interest.

MINI PERFORMANCE TEAM

10's & 12's PERFORMANCE TEAMS

Our Intermediate Performance Students are most active at the studio as the have the opportunity to step into specialty classes for the first time. This is where they receive very specific training across a variety of genres and start to explore expression along with the development of technique. The amount of competitions they attend increases and their exam levels have a heightened degree of difficulty. Students are able to really explore what dance means to them, where their strengths lie and what needs to be cultivated to enhance their ability to be a well rounded dancer. This is a very exciting time in their dance journey and forms the basis of their mindset and how they carry themselves, not only in class, but in the world beyond.

STAR PERFORMANCE TEAM

15's PERFORMANCE TEAM

Reaching our Senior Performance Teams is a dream for all of the UDC Students. This is where our Seniors are able to showcase all that they are as dancers and really push themselves to the next level. Technique is refined and executed at its highest level and students explore artistry across all platforms. Students are granted the opportunity to work with industry professionals on a weekly basis and partake in workshops and routine creation with well respected, professional choreographers.  Most of all, our Senior students are the highest calibre of 'young people' in the dance world, as they have learned and practiced daily compassion, empathy, hard work ethic, growth mindset, accountability, camaraderie and respect.  When our Senior Students graduate, they can leave with their heads held high knowing that they have achieved so much, but that there is so much more to continue to achieve.

Maija’s growth this year has been phenomenal- to think that this time last year she was a Bright Star and now... wow! Both yours and her hard work and perseverance has most definitely paid off. Thank you so much to all of the teachers who have made a difference. Sooo proud of all of the 6’s at the concert. They were fab! And such a lovely bunch of girls - really feel like a little team who look out for each other. Backstage, their behaviour was exemplary while having fun. You deserve the credit for fostering this, you can see it in all of the teams!
Also - have to mention how lovely the ‘big girls’ are with our girls - they take the time to make a fuss of them, encourage them and share a hug. Maija idolises them all and of course wants to be a ‘big girl’ one day.
